Bit too sunny if anything! As it needed to be done, I betook myself to the GP surgery to get another sample bottle. Then it was back through the park from there and along to the kebab shop; and home. So tea has been kebab and chips, and very nice it was too

But I was very warm by the time I got back

The bed is airing, so I also need to remake that at some point

This morning was mostly spent documenting some stuff and closing a bunch of tickets. This afternoon, there’s the main developer fortnightly meeting, followed by an hour or so of informal chat with the other devs in the portfolio. I might see if I can get one minor ticket done before those, just to tidy up the board a little more

Hazy sunshine and 18 degrees when I left Mum's at 6.20 am. Now there's pretty lumps of fluff as far as the eye can see from gig3's offices. Currently 23 degrees ('feels like' 25) with a high of 27 expected. Barometer at 1023 mBar.

I was going to take the train but decided I wasn't willing to pay £64 when driving was going to take about the same amount of time. The train only costs £15 from home. Hardly anyone in the office but it was important to come in to collect my world cup sweepstake winnings. Will probably disappear by 3pm when my parking runs out.

Many grasshoppers & butterflies & bees upset.

The compost heap is now about 7 feet tall.

I seem to have managed to avoid the horseflies.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: Mud. Today Rebecca Stott detailed her family's losses in WWI, that epitome of mud & incompetence.

Some bollox or other about busyness. It's even less inneresting than The Lion in Winter was yesterday. . <click>

It’s another cloudy start, and none the worse for that! Mild enough at 17°C with an expected high of 26°, and the barometers are down a little but still high enough at 1012/1020mB

It’s Viz week so I need to go to Big Sainsbury’s. Therefore, I won’t be rushing out to do the shopping at lunchtime, but will do it tomorrow instead. Might go to M&S too while I’m over there

It’s set in a small community near LA starting around 2024, where society is crumbling from the effects of climate change and the greed of the super wealthy, so quite far fetched… oh, wait

This was accompanied by the next episode of Murder 24/7 in which the bloke who stabbed his wife eventually found that changing your story repeatedly is not the best way to handle questioning, though it took a retrial because of a hung jury before it was all sorted out

They rather glossed over the fact that the police, acting on information received, discovered crucial new evidence in the family home, which was the scene of the crime, halfway through the second trial. Why hadn’t they found it before then, despite at least two supposedly thorough searches of the property? Who can say

The surgery finally contacted me about my request to discuss the side effects of this stuff with a pharmacist, made through the form on their website. They explained that I shouldn’t have used the form on their website as they don’t monitor it; I ought to have phoned, in case it was urgent. I would have asked the obvious question, but I was trying to get some work finished off and also very tired because of the side effects, so I didn’t bother getting into it

Anyway, a pharmacist will phone me on Friday afternoon. Hope it isn’t urgent

Pork pie for lunch

This morning was all meetings: show & tell, followed by our sprint retrospective. But this project is now winding down as the data work I just finished was really the last big bit. So we were able to combine the retro with planning for the next sprint, and indeed for the transition to maintenance mode. As I’m off next week, there’ll be one more sprint after this, assuming nothing comes up from the data analysts or the stakeholders. So until mid-August, I’ll just be pottering around dealing with any odd bits of tech debt that it would be nice to have sorted out before the end, if all goes well

After that, it sounds like I’ll be moving on to work on features for some other services that fall into the category of “nice to have” but don’t fit into the main flow of work for the relevant team. This means there should be a bit of variety and also less of the boring maintenance stuff

TIL: the new Prime Minister actively dislikes “roadmaps” and the like, preferring a narrative approach along the lines of “Here’s a problem these people had, and this is what we did/are doing to fix it.” I don’t suppose this will affect me in any way, but I gather the civil servants who communicate things upwards are all now preparing to start reframing things to suit

Packing this morning. Off to stay with Mum for a week. Undecided what time to leave but I'd like to get there quite early so I might go around 11 am. If I don't leave by 11.30 am, then I'll have to go after 3 pm and the traffic will be worse then.
