    Saw this Boxing Day at IMAX Waterloo, time flew by.

    Didn't look at my watch for 1.75 hours, that's pretty good, if it was a tulip film I'd have checked the time in the first 30 mins.

    3D was OK, but not a jot on Avatar for full on 3D.

    Found it a bit silly compared to LOTR films, and thought the dwarves were rubbish. The main one didn't even have a proper beard.

    The point I suppose is that Hobbit is a children's story and doesn't attempt to be otherwise.

    No. No faeries. Nor fairies for that matter.

    I thought it wasn't bad but saw it in 3D on a big screen. I don't think it'll translate well to telly\dvd. Agree about the laws of physics.

    That's nothing - They're staring on a third lot soon, to be called The Silmarillion Fan.

    Didnt we discuss this a few weeks back ? How one small book can be made into 3 films is a mystery. The only reasoning behind this is the money aspect. Doing the maths 3 films would mean 3 times money !

    He was a professor of languages, so it was rather a hobby of his. He didn't invent the new language in order to appeal to geeky fans (as Klingon was); it was for his own amusement.

    The Silmarillion is an excellent book, though stylisticly quite difficult for the ignorant masses to read*. Presumably, Jackson will produce a 20 part film to cover that story in that (of which Lord of the Rings is covered in a couple of paragraphs).

    * I.e., if you don't like it, you're ignorant.

    It was ok, bit boring. Seemed like we spent half an hour with dwarfs making dinner and tossing plates around. I cant remember the book as it is such a long time ago I read it, but when they were stuck high up I knew Gandalf would be saved by the big birds...again... The fight scene seemed a bit "you shall not pass" too.

    But yes, why make one film when you can make three. Harry Potter, Twilight, they are all at it. Making mediocre films into two or more parts.

    Spoke to those who saw it in 24 fps first and they said it was not as good.
