You can use your birth certificate and a couple of other things if you don't have a passport.

Last Evri parcel I had delivered, I selected put "Deliver through mailbox" as the delivery option. Got a notification it had arrived, but no package. Hang on, I went to check the delivery image... guy had crossed the street and put my package in the mailbox. The royal mail post box!

I reckon we'll mostly have our own lockers for delivery of parcels. The courier will have a one-time code to allow access to drop off the parcel.

The will avoid the scenario where the courier leaves the parcel in the wheelie bin which is then emptied with the parcel still in there, a kind neighbour having put the bin out

On a related note, will AI entities need an ID card?

Yup, it has no real purpose, and is just a huge risk as it will get hacked.

The reason being given for the purpose of the ID cards is a crock of tulip.

If free ID cards were issued purely for the purposes of proving who someone is, for all the scenarios where you need an ID*, then I think most people would accept that.

Now, in order to GET an official ID, I can see that you might need to have the right to live and work in the UK and therefore a logical extension of its use would be to provide employers and landlords an easy way to check they are employing / renting to legit people. However, that still won't stop people who don't care about the legality of their employees / tenants, it will most likely mean they just exploit those people even more.

I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise but I can't see how ID cards would make any difference.

The kind of firms employing illegals won't give a FF.

Even if they extended the scheme so you needed ID to rent accommodation, I doubt that would catch many out. The sort of landlords renting rooms to illegals are probably just as dodgy as the firms employing them.

Why would someone travelling to the UK have a digital ID before they arrive, unless they were processed and approved offshore? Duh!

I agree - except I think this has always been more of civil service project than politicians - Burnham was a huge fan of it under Blair, the Tories loved the idea until it was a Labour one - behind it all is Whitehall really. Different gangs of civil servants have wanted to be the ones to run ID for ages.
