Yup, it has no real purpose, and is just a huge risk as it will get hacked.

For parcels etc I used my student ID which I started having at 16, then a bank card with a photo on it once I graduated and when they stopped being issued I started using my photo driving license.Originally posted by ladymuck View Post
like: picking up a parcel from the post office, opening a bank account, voting, proving you're old enough to drink / smoke, getting on a domestic flight, etc, etc
For right to work I use my passport.
For finance stuff they credit check me.
For voting I postal vote.
For hospital visits etc they check who my doctor is on their computer.
My parents never trusted governments so ensured they and we had passports even if we weren't going anywhere for years. I now understand where they were coming from.

Killer use case. This will be very important in the future. With post offices closing down there are so few left, and we cant just let any unidentified miscreants in them can we? They are holy shrines to Britains glorious past.Originally posted by ladymuck View Postpicking up a parcel from the post office

So you're alright, nothing to see here, all those poor people can just remain unemployable because they can't afford a passport.Originally posted by SueEllen View Post

I reckon we'll mostly have our own lockers for delivery of parcels. The courier will have a one-time code to allow access to drop off the parcel.Originally posted by willendure View Post

The will avoid the scenario where the courier leaves the parcel in the wheelie bin which is then emptied with the parcel still in there, a kind neighbour having put the bin out
On a related note, will AI entities need an ID card?

Last Evri parcel I had delivered, I selected "Deliver through mailbox" as the delivery option. Got a notification it had arrived, but no package. Hang on, I went to check the delivery image... guy had crossed the street and put my package in the mailbox. The royal mail post box!Originally posted by ladymuck View Post
