I think he means Auto-breaking as in he causes an accident and the car ends up in the scrappers a few days later without him having to do anything else.

brake=slow down.
Break = the brass broke.
though the Gin might have had an effect.

Me too: the Passat was the worst: unlike the Polo which managed 110k, the Passat didn't make 9k before it was BER*. POS that it was.Originally posted by woody1 View Post
Was it autobreaking because I've had a few cars over the years that have had that "feature".
*well with gearbox oil at £17 per litre, most of which ended up on the garage floor, driver's door window motor screwed, antilock breaking** system fecked, BER it was. Oh, and the dipstick tube broke off one day when I was seeing how much oil the sump had managed to retain: thank feck for araldite & glassfibre matting.
**See wot I did there?

For any of you hankering for a pinball machine, this lot have a decent selection: https://www.libertygames.co.uk/store...ball_machines/
They also do lots of arcade machines and other "essential" toys.

A few years ago my Passat jammed on as a open walkers crisp packet blew in front of it, foil side facing, and the car behind ended up bumper to bumper behind. He thought I was brake testing him!!!Originally posted by northernladuk View Post
By autonomous breaking I assume you mean where the car breaks when it detects you are going to run up the back of the car in front. It's saved my other half once and worked perfectly. Why on earth would you not want something that doesn't affect your driving but will save you when you don't?
Let me guess, you've never had an accident but you've seen plenty?

Didn't get it at all. Didn't know any of the tricks with the flippers, didn't know where or how to aim the ball to get it in a general area. You can actually play the mini games on these things to get multiball etc but you need to know each table really for that. They aren't for everyone and need to understand the table and flipper tricks etc to properly enjoy them I think. If you don't know all that it's just hitting flippers as fast as you can an no idea what's happening so not for everyone.. or many people for that matter. Can't really have fun just by walking up and having a couple of goes. Kinda see why they are obsolete nowadays.
He went straight back up to the modern game floor and spent the rest of the time on the shooters and car ones.
Slight side note it was an epic day. All the classics, after pinball spent most of the rest of the day on R-Type but everyone one from my childhood days. If there is a big arcade day out near you I'd say go. I'll be going back as soon as I can.

Looks like his website is from the same era as the pinball machines. Funnily enough I went to a local warehouse that's been converted in to 5 floors of arcade games for the first time. I spent most of it playing the Terminator Pinball machine. Used to be in our local sports centre. The amount of money I spent on that thing. Played it until my wrists hurt. My 20 something lad came up and had no idea what to do. He'd never played one. Crazy.

My brother had a Honda Civic that had all the driving aids and, shortly after he bought it, took it for a drive up the M23 turned them all on and just let the car drive - it managed the lanes, the traffic, autobraking, maintaining speed etc. That's not to say it was all good but the technology is slowly getting thereOriginally posted by woody1 View PostSome cars these days look like they've got a laptop strapped to the dash. Surely that's got to be distracting?
I don't like the idea of cars with a mind of their own either eg. lane assist, autonomous braking.
Screens in cars, on the other hand, where you can't tell by touch whether you've found the right menu item to turn on your wipers, are a liability.

Whatever.Originally posted by northernladuk View Post
Coming from a bloke that can't use a smartphone that's an understandable statement but it's your outdated thinking that's clouding your judgement. Those two are perfect examples. Both are aids, not minds of their own and work in a very specific instances to help you when you don't. The lane assist I must admit I find a bit annoying around town when you have to cross the line for parked cars but works spot on on motorway. By autonomous breaking I assume you mean where the car breaks when it detects you are going to run up the back of the car in front. It's saved my other half once and worked perfectly.
