I think they now need to insist on any wages / service fees / benefits are paid into a bank account and people can then use cash as they wish. Penalties pretty harsh for not complying.
Bank account linked to one person and one NI number using KYC.
Kill the black/grey/ illegal economy whilst leaving people the freedom to use cash.

It's called "cash"

Always have a reserve £20 in the wallet.
Keep a spare £20 hidden in my Filofax and my support bag as well.
I can't use self checkouts and some ATM's are a pain in the proverbial so still get cashback at Supermarkets etc.

£50 in sterling, €50 in euro in the wallet. £10 in the car for basics.
Debit card for parking, don't do apps for parking, don't encourage them.
I always have cash with me, enough to pay for at least a tank of fuel.
It's surprisingly common to find that non-cash payment mechanisms are not working. Supermarkets and supermarket filling stations are the common failures in my experience.
I think for cash, it's use it or lose it.

Very much so although I have to admit, I very rarely have any cash on me and when I do, it tends to be euros from the odd trip away.
In fact, the only time i can think of when I genuinely need cash is when I am paying for parking and there is no phone reception to pay over the parking app.

Surprising how many people queue for cash on the self checkouts. Seems fishy.
