You don't need to have used twitter to have an opinion on it ... I've seen enough news articles about it to know what it's about and the type of crud that is posted.

In the same way that I don't read the Wail, but I've seen enough crud posted from it to know the type of 'news' it reports', and the types of people who do read it

The stuff you see posted from the Mail it is always the more extreme stuff simply by virtue that nobody would quote the other stuff.
An opinion based on others opinions is rarely accurate. Do you really trust those sources to be accurate in their portrayal? Like the internet in general there's all sorts of stuff there it's just where you look.

He basically just became mod of the world's largest forum. And the thing about internet forums, they don't respect free speech. They are about the most tightly totalitarian (often dictatorship) communities in the world. Even in little places like CUK, people get very upset when a mod can act with total power and zero accountability - imagine it on Twitter when Elon gets upset and deletes the accounts of half the world leaders because they don't support Tesla? And the thing is, on past form that's exactly the sort of thing he might do.

What a agreeing to pay such a ludicrous price in the midst of a bear market. Other social media stocks have fallen 70-80%.

No wonder he got buyer's remorse and tried to wriggle out of the deal. Luckily for him, there were other idiots willing to put up some of the money.

This will go down as one of the most overpaid tech acquisitions in history.

If only he'd got your financial savvy, he could be the richest man in the world.

He has already said he hasn't bought it primarily to make money. That may or may not be BS but most of Musk's businesses seem set out to disrupt an industry and provide something, and make money along the way. He doesn't seem driven by getting rich, that just happens. He can afford to spend $50bn just for his own pet project, and not need to care about the share-price or investors.

Musk has paid a very high multiple of earnings. Total active user growth has hardly been stellar for several years now

Unless he comes up with the super app concept he's touted, it's hard to see the deal making financial sense in the medium term, especially with a platform that makes 95% of its revenue from advertising, just as we're going into a recession.

While you can get the mad ravings of people from Nadine Dorries to some random bot -

1. It's a place to get breaking news stories before they are properly put on mainstream news media websites. (I tend to search for those when I hear stuff on the radio to post links on here.)

2. If you follow the emergency services, environment agency etc in your area they will post warnings on it. So for example that's how I knew a large water main and sewage pipe had burst at the end of my road one morning without having to go out.

2. You can also get links to useful work related or hobby stuff like hobnob said if you follow the right people/companies/teams.

I think Twitter is a bit like YouTube: which accounts you choose to follow will have a big effect on your overall experience. There's a lot of stuff on there that has nothing to do with politics; in particular, I follow some accounts who tweet about infosec (e.g. if there's a new vulnerability which affects product X).

Am I the only person on here who's never been on twitter and has zero interest it in,

I've never been interested in twitter, never understood if it was something worth using or not.

Then last weekend I saw my 60something old mother in law using twitter to ask about road closures and I got to the conclusion it's not worth using. I guess I'm just too young for it.
