I consider most religious leaders as suspect however the point of the preceding post is that with Christianity it doesn't encourage paedophilia as part of the faith. If the RC church was routinely marrying 9 year old girls according to their faith or running a church sanctioned brothel then I would condemn it as well.

Tuam is horrific but what they were doing was stopped 50 years ago and condemned, it wasn't actually legal either the church was just so powerful no one opposed it.

The main reasons for temporary marriage are (1) GF and BF can have sex. (2) Men can avoid a very expensive divorce. For a permanent marriage, a man must put and agreed sum of money or property that will automatically go to his wife if he gives notice of divorce. This is in addition to any divorce settlement. The long and short is, the bride is sold by the farther.

Yeah I don't think it's that much different. There of course are probably more fresh Muslim immigrants who pray 5 times a day then other religions who practice that heavily but that's more just related to how developed the countries they're immigrating from are. The more developed the better the education system and typically more secular the governments are and that usually means less religious (as far as practicing goes) they are.

It's a shame we feel the need to identify people as belonging to a certain religious group when they really don't practice.

My wifes family is Muslim, my family is catholic. Neither of us are religious but most likely are both included in whatever statistics as being Muslim for her and catholic for me since that's what we were registered as.
