apparently sadly they do:
Catholic Church sexual abuse cases - Wikipedia
In 2014, the Permanent Representative of the Holy See to the UN, Silvano Maria Tomasi, appeared before the Committee against Torture and reported that during the previous ten years, 3420 cases of abuse against minors had been investigated and 884 priests had been removed from their positions and reduced to lay status.[51] Allegations of and convictions for sexual abuse by clergy have occurred in many countries. There are no accurate figures available on the number of sexual abuse cases in different regions. But, in 2002 The Boston Globe reported, "clearly the issue has been most prominent in the United States."[15] The US is the country with the highest number of reported Catholic sex abuse cases.[52]

Casual racism was almost mandatory until 40 years.
Times have changed. How can we judge historic people by today's standards?
By 50s standards, most people going to work in an office are scruffy feckers.
If what he said was inappropriate for his day, that's one thing.
Cyril Smith shagging kids would never be regarded as acceptable (give or take certain religions).

It seems people are coming to the realisation that people are not black or white, good men can do bad things, and its very difficult to paint a person as one or the other

Let's just get this over with and agree everyone (white) prior to about 1940 was terrible. Racist, sexist homophobes the lot of them. Further, any TV show or film from before about 10 years ago should be banned.
Of course today's progressive idol is next decades hateful bigot (e.g. J.K.Rowling) so we should probably automatically bin any TV/show or film once it gets to 10 years old.
