Do they even do holiday programmes anymore?Originally posted by SimonMac View Post
She was quite watchable. More so than Cliff Michelmore. And Frank Bough, for that matter although a holiday with Frank might have been more fun:-)

Shirley Porter, 95, the famous gerrymanderer.
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/dame-shirl...155706088.html
Jack Cohen's daughter.
After the fine she fecked off to Tel Aviv.
Sounds as pleasant to work for as Maxwell or Green. With much the same morals.Last edited by DoctorStrangelove; 4 May 2026, 18:34.

I don’t bother following links to the Torygraph, but the Grauniad has started doing an annoying overlay about something or other. So I created this bookmarklet which lets me click a “Grauniad” button in my browser's “Favourites” toolbar and remove it:
It should be quite straightforward to make something similar for the Torygraph; this is left as an exercise for the readerCode:javascript:void(document.documentElement.classList.remove("sp-message-open")%20||%20document.querySelector("[id^='sp_message_container']").parentElement.removeChild(document.querySelector("[id^='sp_message_container']")))
(By the way, that article about bookmarklets I linked to up there is very good, but I’ve been using them on just about every browser since the days of Netscape Navigator and I’ve never once had to URL-encode them myself - the %20 encoding of spaces in the code above was done automatically by Safari. As the article says, it’s seldom necessary, so I wouldn’t worry about that step if you’re inspired to experiment.)

Here's a nice little tip for you that works for me with the Torygraph - on desktop and tablet, at least.Originally posted by ladymuck View PostI just use it to avoid paying money to the Torygraph. HWMBO uses it when he wants to share things from the NYT. Neither of us ever had any issues with malware as a result. But each should do their own risk assessment of any URL posted in a public forum.
Access the article and then whilst it's still rendering, hit the stop/cancel icon on the horizontal menu of your browser.
You'll get all the readable content minus, maybe, one or two graphics. Cancelling before the page has completely rendered seems to stop that "Sign up to read this article" overlay that stops you from being able to read anything.
Just can't do this on mobile as chrome mobile version doesn't have anything you can click on to cancel.

I was listening this very afternoon to last Saturday's Archive Hour about "The Naked Ape" book.

I have browser plug ins to block scripts. Nothing loads without me knowing about it but maybe not everything gets blocked because the plug ins can't detect them. How would I know? I sometimes open websites in isolated browser instances on virtual machines if I'm really not sure about them.
Maybe it's possible my PC is riddled with malware and my daily scans are unable to see it. Again, how would I know if I'm not receiving demands for bitcoin to regain access to my PC that I'm fully in control of?
I think I take enough precautions but, sure, carry on lecturing me.
If you don't like the website, don't click the link.
