I was a consultant for 14 years, now a contractor. Seems the same to me except the projects are longer and I get to keep what was the "margin".

Reasonably accurate summary, especially number 4 which is a card that's been played so liberally that people twitch in fear at the concept let alone the reality. Unless of course it's a member of certain racial groupings being racist in which case that's totally ignored.

I wonder if the increased Americanisation of UK culture contributes at all - in the US a 'contractor' is very different to the UK meaning.
