In others words, he doesnt want someone with a contracting background. Hey ho. Good news is, I've got a face to face interview tomorrow so, not all bad news.
goodluck with your interview, remember to post experience....

I would have thought that many people would benefit from a permanent employment. Especially with many rates hovering around the 200-300/day mark.

I wouldn't consider a contract rate unless it was 500+/day. Any less is just not worth bothering with.

Tend to agree. Reason I see is (for my specialism at least) specialism creep. For example, BA's cross skilling so can say to clients they can do the job of 2 resources. The growth of bodyshop's (mate of mine was one of the founders of a quite well known example) who'll supply resources under market rate plus, the continual taxation nonsense going on connected to contractors. Clients dont want the hassle of IR35 or, being seen to have 'off payroll' employees not paying their 'fair share' of tax.

Justification is the market is pants in cloggers even if you speak cloggy, this role gets me into another industry without having to have the experience, so adds another string to my bow.
Contracting with a Dutch limited is a bureaucratic PITA and accountants, solicitors and insurance aint cheap ( about 10 times the price in the UK, not to mention the €2.5k company set up fees), not to mention having to retain salary constantly at a certain level to maintain the expat tax ruling.

Will give it a go and see what happens, permie contracts here are a year at a time for the first couple of years anyway, before you get a proper permie contract.
Interesting to hear its not just the UK where the contract market is carp.

In much the same position. After several weeks of nearly nothings I have had a telephone interview in which the interviewer asked if I would go perm. Then offered a face to face next Weds. Tuesday I have a face to face at a low paying contract (same rate I was on 4 years ago). Monday I have a telephone SQL test for a perm job in London. So nothing for ages then 3 potentials in the same few days. And I must admit the last perm job in London is my secret favourite. As the salary is stupid. Or the agent is lying.

Good luck, I think permie is a good option, I don´t see the contractor market suddenly turning. I think you would have to be prepared for a low rate and travel expenses.
Tell me about it. Had 1st interview. Then two phone interviews. Just waiting for final phone interview.

    Thanks both.

Im still up for a contract and although the rate is just over £350 a day, the location is expensive with accommodation circa £70 a night. The good point is, travel would be by train and the office is only a 10 minute walk away from the station. Accommodation is again within 15 minute walk so, no need for the car meaning even if Monday is an early start, you can snooze on the train.

But TBH, I think the testing sector is flooded with bob's, testing bodyshops and, every BA tom dick and harry thinking they can do a thorough testing job.

This permie role is on my doorstep and is looking more and more attractive.

He said Im deffo in the mix, the company dont have a problem with my past contracting history and he's having further talks when the Programme Manager returns from holiday on Monday.

Might be spinning me along but I dont see why when he could just ignore me. So, Im still in the pot for this role which is close to home and a good package for my part of the country. Still applying for contracts and had a telephone interview yesterday which hopefully progresses to a face to face next week.
