I thought I would make one of my rare inspections of one of the northern chap's posts. This bearing in mind he is firmly on my Ignore List due to far too much omni-present yappiness.

Seems I wasn't disappointed and his responses are still very much redundant, and as all-pervasive as they have ever been.

My dear man, the OP wasn't asking for a definition of Networking, nor how it is supposed to work by whatever variant definition you might have for something already long understood by the majority of the cognitive world.

He was asking for a way in, or a way forward. I believe I responded in kind.

That said, if your response was solely to cover your need to add random words to Every post on this forum, then I guess you've succeeded.

    Back to Ignore!

You could but that's not really how networking works.

As an aside, for me at least, job boards might at least offer an element of variety not otherwise likely from contacts asking you to come back.

    Yep.

I've had the odd bit of repeat work, but mostly it's through the job boards, and LinkedIn connections (agents, not work related contacts)

Every gig in 10 years from it. I've lost count the number of times I'm not available when my networks need me or they've not had work when I'm free. Like ships in the night on the networking front so far.

If age did count for much it's a positive as there's no sick pay for contractors.
OP mentioned Support in his opening remarks did you not read that first! Support is very much driven by age & cost factors nowadays experience counts for little they want the cheapest option where possible.

Years ago an Agency would look at your skillset, cross reference the jobs they had at hand and put you forward for suitable vacancies.
You were essentially a commodity to them and they would try and place you with one of their clients before another agency did.

Are there any of those old school Agencies still out there they you could recommend ? I'm in the North East btw ...

I know about some of the big online players over here such as Indeed, Monster, Reed etc .. but would appreciate other recommendations also.

Thanks in advance from a guy that is still trying to find his feet in blighty.

    Mick

+1. Any chance you can work remotely for a Canadian client you know, or leverage some kind of network contacts in the UK?
