But if I have handy contract in name of LLC then all calls are covered no?Originally posted by WTFH View Post
Based on your replies...
Are you currently domiciled in the UK?
Do you have a legal right to work in the UK currently?
Is your contract inside or outside IR35?
Depending on your answers, some things you can expense for business purposes, but not everything, and not if it is mainly for personal use. e.g. taking a mobile phone out on a business contract, and then using it mostly to call your Aunt Gertrude in Australia - that wouldn't be a good idea.
Also, as others have pointed out, if you are looking for a company to manage your company, not just do the tax reporting, then you'd be better working through an umbrella, rather than setting up a Ltd, as they will "manage" the business side for you.Last edited by Baddish; 6 May 2022, 17:39.

Ah, ok. Makes sense then as he is not an exclusive Contractor Accountant which, as Covid collided thrillingly with the IR35 changes, was probably a good thing for him as he shifted ever so slightly towards including other types of business to his accounting portfolio.Originally posted by northernladuk View Post
Xero is bigger and does more stuff so over the top for basic LTD's. Does the job with aplomb I'm told but FA is the simpler cut down version and is all that is needed. It's also the standard for contractor accountants so much easier to port to another specialist. Not much else in it though. Both do the job.
Anyway, to the OP's point, he, Hewitt's, is quick to answer and if the OP has never used FA or Xero, either of the two would be a learning curve. Good luck Baddish, with whomever you choose.Last edited by simes; 16 May 2022, 12:47.

No accountant is going to spoon feed you. They will be available to answer questions but you need to step up and get a fair understanding of your own finances. You have a legal duty as a director to be able to understand and manage your finances. Your accountant only provides a service, the responsibility still stays with you.Originally posted by Baddish View Post
I need solution that will give me ready access to answers to my queries regarding many things as I'm unfamiliar with hiw things are workingg in uk tax system. Example, can I charge a car and will I be able to buy a new handy on expenses
The basics aren't complex and there are plenty of resources out there to research. You cannot wash your hands of the accountancy side and expect an accountant to do it all for you. That would fall foul of MSC rules as we have seen very recently. Your job is being a contractor and a LTD director now so it's for you to learn and manage.
Call round a couple on the list you've already been given and see who you feel most comfortable with and go with them. Every contractor with a LTD (virtually) has done this and it's not hard.

Have you read the thread on Boox and Churchill Knight? You are just asking to be investigated as an MSC.Originally posted by Baddish View Post

At least then making a fully informed decision about how to proceed with as low risk as possible. Anyone now engaging an accountant for anything beyond simple book keeping is taking a risk.
OP requests "an accountant in uk with company set up and the initial admin included. I need one stop shop".
If he continues down that path he could end up regretting those words. Maybe.

Yes indeed, Xero.
Never having used Freeagent, can I ask what are the supposed advantages over Xero? For my part, Xero seems to do its job and I am not shouting for anything that it is not serving.

I have never used Xero. I pretty much see FreeAgent as the main default option for contractors. For right or wrong, that's what I think. For that reason I would not consider an accountant that doesn't support FA. I don't question the Xero software at all and others may prefer Xero. Or something else entirely.Originally posted by simes View Post

No, apparently not. You get a Xero subscription thrown in if you pay monthly. Personally, I would rather have FreeAgent. But that might not be everyone's choice.
