We may not win but I'm hoping we can demonstrate some common sense here. The point is that they don't want people under SDorC claiming expenses because permanent staff can't claim those expenses. I just want to ensure that the reverse is equally true....
Fair comment. Would be interested to see what the outcome would be in this particular scenario.

We want you to spend 6 months monday to friday at the other end of the country. HMRC will be treating your £800 weekly hotel and meals bill as taxable income, hope you don't mind..

Is it possible that we are only serving to provide a more accurate figure for the amount of extra cash the government is going to be raising from the proposed changes.
David Cameron was accurate in his statement about small business being vital in the government's economic plans. We're vital in that we're going to be paying more tax.
A very cynical way of looking at it but you could well be right!

Because of the dividend changes, I'm going to start bothering claiming for everything I'm entitled to claim.
There's no way I can plonk the extra % on top of my invoices, I need to remain competitive.

I used to, but now I can't be bothered for small amounts. I focus on generating more fees - it's more cost effective.

This. I even claim the postage for sending contracts back but am squeaky clean when it comes to slightly questionable items. There is a big difference between pedantic and slack with your accounts.

Unless the items are cash only then I pay using company debit card. Endeavour to keep all receipts, but this less critical as the business bank statement is already a record of the expense. (Yes I know the same could be said of personal bank statement but I prefer to not to give Hector an easy excuse to request that.) Doing it this way also means the ledger will not reconcile until all expenses have been accounted for. Whether you see that as a good or a bad thing - YMMV.

    Claim them.

You can enter them in as a job lot on your expenses per week as long as you have the receipts.

How hard can it be to record a claim for £5?!?! £5x4x48=£960/yr, tax free - so yes, I would claim it. It'll take you all of 2 mins to record a week's worth of parking.
