Just had a followup phone call with the pharmacist, who agreed that the new cholesterol drug seems to have been the problem. So I’m staying off that, and he’s going to get back in touch about other options in a month or so, as he figured it was sensible to leave some time to be sure I’ve fully...

    Morning? Afternoon, more like!

Lunch has been the remaining M&S steak slice

Moving in is going on at the far end of the adjacent block, presumably into the top floor flat from which moving out occurred two or three weeks ago ...

    Morning denizens

It’s cumulus central out there again today, with plenty of blue gaps so quite sunny too. Currently 21°C but it’ll reach 23° for a bit later; the barometers are up a little at 1006/1014mB

We had a few brief spells of rain yesterday, including...

Tonight’s major motion picture premiere was Shelter (2026) in which Jason Statham plays a secretive man who turns out to have a hidden past as a deadly special forces operative. Nice to see him trying something new… But anyway, it may sound formulaic, but it’s a very good example of the formula...

Tea has been an M&S rack of ribs with chips

To accompany this, Murder 24/7 on iPlayer, which is a continuation of the case from last series about the DPD driver who was murdered by a gang with machetes and such, apparently because of mistaken identity

Lunch was nothing, because I figured I could get something when I went shopping, if I went shopping. In the end, I did go shopping and have just got back, but a) I forgot to get anything specifically for today's lunch and b) it’s too late for lunch anyway, so I’ll just have a bag of crisps ...

It’s cloudy, but more masses of cumuli rather than overcast, so some sunshine breaks through from time to time. It’ll b milder today: already at 20°C, it won’t get past 23° (and that only briefly), which is rather more tolerable. The barometers are trivially...

More of Parable of the Talents read tonight, in which something good happened for a change - though it brought with it a foreshadowing of something bad…

I think today was the first day my system was completely clear of that cholesterol drug, as I felt much better and didn’t...

Tea has been chicken madras with rice and naan

To go with this, another NYPD homicide case, this time about a cleaner in an office block in the Wall Street area who got into the lift with her trolley at the start of her shift, and disappeared

This morning’s grand accomplishment has been securing the washing machine drain hose to the back of the cupboard under the sink

The hose connects to the sink drain, which isn’t ideal but that’s how it is. The problem was that the way the hose wanted to lie would gradually...

    Morning denizens

It’s a sunny start with some bits of fluff hither and yon, and already building up to be a hot one. Currently 23°C, it’s expected to reach 29° for much of the afternoon, though after today it’ll slip back to the low-to-mid twenties for the foreseeable future...

Midweek (well, nearly) movie night’s premiere was Relay (2024) in which Riz Ahmed acts as an intermediary between corrupt big businesses and people who have information that could harm them. This is an excellent thriller, taut and suspenseful, eschewing fights and car chases in favour of an ever-building...

Tea has been M&S pre-digested chicken chasseur, with chips and peas. Nice enough

And lunch was an M&S steak slice, which was OK but not as good as a Greggs steak bake - maybe not even quite as good as the Pukka variant, though close

It’s sunny yet also cloudy out, and going to be a hot one: already at 24°C, it’ll reach 28° for much of the afternoon. There’s a bit of a breeze, but not as much as yesterday. The barometers are up a bit at 1007/1015mB

    I slept soundly...

Tonight’s reading was more of Parable of the Talents in which their remote community is gradually expanding, though usually because of some hideous tragedy befalling other people

    Goodnight all

Sweet and sour pork with fried rice for tea

Accompanying this, a series called Homicide on Netflix which is basically NYPD detectives talking about old cases, the first being the murder of Jennifer Stahl and two of her friends in 2001

    The Corolla has been resurrected!

The new jump-start battery pack thing I’d bought looks a lot chunkier and generally competent than the cheaper old ones, and sure enough, it got it started without batting an eyelid and still showed a full charge afterwards when I plugged it...
