Be there for them. Do not fuss. Do not distract them. Very occasionally ask if there is anything they want. When they say "Go" say "Anything but that, you were there for me when I was a teenager and I hated you. Now it is my turn." Then go back to just quietly being there for them.
nice and true, true. unfortunately distance makes it difficult to be there.
