My dear nieces are still getting chocolate and cash, but with a twist.
Whenever I get a pound coin with a dragon on the back, I put it to one side. I originally started doing this when I was poverty-stricken and had a girlfriend - the ones with dragons on were uncommon enough that I didn't mind putting them aside, and during the course of a year they would build into a healthy sum to be spent on birthday presents for the girlfriend.
Now that both the poverty and the girlfriend are gone, I still do this, but I use them as presents for my nieces, who think they are "cool", apparently.
So this year they shall each be getting a jewellery box filled with a mixture of chocolate coins and pound coins with dragons on the back.
Sorting them so they can find out how much they've got will keep them entertained for a few minutes, hopefully.
I pulled a similar stunt last year with purses and they were delighted with it
I think I've got about £180 pounds in dragons at the moment, so they won't be getting them all...
