I have been to the farmers' market and bought much veg for HWMBO to do something with next week. The market is moving up the road for a little while as the council is doing pavement improvements around these parts (and very nice it looks, too).

Afternoon denizens

It’s a cloudy day, though there are blue gaps here and there. It’s also slightly less heatwavey at 21°C with an expected high of 23°. The barometers are finally getting with the programme, being up to 1007/1015mB. And the wind, presumably an important factor for the balloon festival down the road, will blow any balloonists that venture upwards directly towards us, so I should get a nice view of them drifting off towards Rutland

There’s no sign of any balloons right now though; I don’t know what goes on at these things, but I’d expect at least a few of them to aviate eventually

Hoovering has been done. A proper job with things being moved and the fluffy brush tool being used on the skirting boards. The floor also needs mopping but that won't get done today.

I'm too warm now.

First load of laundry done and out on the airers in the garden. In two minds whether to do the next load. There's a good chance the first lot will be dry by the time it's done but if it isn't then it's a logistical faff.

No sign of any balloons yet. Maybe they just stay tethered on the park or something?

No second load of bed linen was laundered. The bed has just been made and the first load brought in.

It's going to be a sticky night's sleep. Currently 21 degrees ('feels like' 24) and will only drop to 18 overnight.

Washing frenzy in progress.

Just received some beer & a box of chocolates from next door for repairing their washing line last week. .

Probably cost them more than just paying for the washing line.

Google reckons that the dark brown with a silvery fringe butterfly is a "ringlet". Never heard of that one before. It seemed to like the succulents.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: nothing currently of innerest on R4 so probably tweet of the day, rather more to my taste than ISIHAC which I've cordially hated for half a century. Indeed: 54 years. Who'd have thunk?

Stuff in off the line bone dry. That requiring the iRon received it & all is now airing upstairs, though getting upstairs & back down again is proving somewhat, er, tricky at the moment. . Ho hum. Happy solstice!

Woke early, too hot. But I did get up to put the duvet cover in the WM so it would be done by the time I planned to get up. Managed to doze for a few hours. Cleaned the shower while having a shower (so much easier that way).

Now having a cuppa before I head down to see Mum. I've closed all the blinds so hopefully the flat won't be too roasting when I get back.

No signoff last night as I’d inadvertently let my laptop battery plummet to the point where it entered an enforced sleep

So for the record: there was more watery wildlife stuff on the box, but this finished early because of the Isle of Wight Festival. So in the evening, I watched the final episode of Legends. Excellent series

And later, I read more of A Canticle for Leibowitz, reaching the end of the first part - it was originally three stories in sci-fi magazines, set in the same world over the space of a few thousand years

This morning, it’s supposedly cloudy out but it’s very thin stuff, with the blue of the sky showing through in many areas. And the heatwave starts in earnest: already at 20°C, it’s expected to rise to 26°. The barometers are up some more at 1014/1022mB

And it is, of course, the Summer Solstice! So a very happy Solstice to all
