      Nope, they've just used a comma to separate the thousands. And occasionally put the currency code in as well.

      REGEXP_SUBSTR to the rescue, since I can't rely on them putting numbers in a numerical column.

        You TRUST users?

        I always assume the user is offshore Dave. Totally useless at most things but can stand heights and nothing (i.e. force 12 gale) throws him. Therefore he wanders around a particular oil platform collecting the data.

        Downside is that he can't do maths and can't type. So I check absolutely everything and assume nothing.
