Despite the drizzle walk (abbreviated, towpath, 3 miles) walked. Nice enough. The M&S "waterproof" shoes lived up to their designation again & leaked.

No plans for the day. There's laundry and some cleaning that could be done. Otherwise, not much else to worry about.

Quite nice volunteery morning, son's lunch afterwards was ok except a bit too oniony. A picture of me is online again in a local community magazine. I only volunteered there once.

Today’s wildlife programming was shorter than usual, because they put women’s football on. I assume it isn’t allowed on the sports channel you’d expect them to use for that kind of thing

And tonight’s reading was Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans, which is the book on which the film Their Finest with Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy is based. I enjoyed the film when I watched it a few years ago, and the book is very good

Monday again tomorrow. I think I’m going to book some time off in October, because otherwise it’s an endless sea of Mondays until Christmas

Well it must be said that the weather forecast, 7 days hourly, I consulted last night didn't include the current inclemency at all. It's rather put my intended washing frenzy on hold.

Entertainment: Jack Hargreaves Old Country: popping across to Normandy for a sporting dog sale, and fishing for gudgeon in the river Nadder in Wiltshire. Gudgeon tansy. Never heard of that before. And a large gudgeon is about 1lb. Dunno why I feel so sorry for these fish.

Shopping trip to Morrisons done dusted washed dried sanitised & put away. It rained on me all the way there & all the way back, though not as heavily as it did shortly before I went out through the back door. . For which, much thanks.

Look at Life: "Rendered Safe (1962)": EOD back in the 1960s. Feck me they're brave men. None of the magic suits they wear these days, it's Navy/Army uniforms, collar & tie.

Expedition Files thing: ETs: Rendlesham forest, Roswell etc. One inneresting bit was some Professor from Nottingham launching helium balloons with a payload that opens for a minute or so at 100,000 feet to see if it can catch ET microbes, then parachutes back down. It uses GPS so they know where to look for it once it's landed.

Alaska Homestead thing: Louisiana: or why it's a pretty daft idea to try to homestead somewhere that regularly floods, and is afflicted with both tornadoes and hurricanes, and living in a mouldy caravan is A Bad Idea.

Alaska Homestead thing: Missouri: a log cabin built on the side of some sort of hill by bolting said cabin to growing trees: fixed by installing foundations and piles so the floors are actually level. Also built a greenhouse and a workshop and installed a log burner in the cabin along with electric light from a solar panel/battery combo thingie.

Tea: chicken in white sauce etc. Nice enough. Entertainment: PM.
