No rain in the Devon dust bowl, even though there was the odd dark cloud going past.
Two of our favourite restaurants/hostelries have asked if they could have some of our plums to put on the menu, so while I’ve picked about 10kg today, The Wife has made chutney with some I picked on Thursday. The local bowls club has also requested some, which they will use to make jam and sell to raise funds.
At least they aren’t going to waste.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

Morning.
Sunday.
Grey.
Sunless.
Damp.
Dreary.
Cool in here at 20.6 deg, 21 in the kitchen, 20 in the leanto.
1001.5 mBar, 29.57 in Hg, 751.2 Torr, 14.526 psi, (down from 1005 last night), 69% RH (Lidl electric).
Meanwhile on the 29th of January 2020 there was more discussion of the A10 with BR14, LM, and NF, whilst NF watched yet more STNG and partook of "The Screwtape Letters" whatever that is.
29 jackdaws on the lawn. There's something there that they like. I wonder if it's those little golden beetle things.
Lunch: brunch. Curiously last week's Oz police thing has been replaced by STNG starting at S1E1.. Back to the 1945 election thing we go.
Freecell score: 88%, running average: 83% (though it did dip to 82% at one point).
Other other other other book. Not sure it really ought to be other other other other other other book, there being a pile of 5 others under it awaiting attention. Dunno why some of them only warrant a page or two before being put down again due to lack of innerest.
"Abilene Town (1946)": this time from the start. 1870 Abilene.
Tea: beans on toast. Plus scrambled egg. Plus frankfurter.
Entertainment: some tosh about the first year of the Labour Government. Having some sort of Cunning Plan would have helped..
Book. Reached the stage of the incompetence & self innerest of General Mark Clark, he of Anzio, a pointless trek towards Rome & similar follies. Including his disinterest in Ultra.
BBC Alba: Look, Stranger (1970): "Who brought the light" with Finlay J. McDonald about the Flannen Isles and the lighthouse thereon, with the mystery of what happened to the 3 lighthouse keepers.

The Eagles in concert. Yes. I can't find anything else.
There seems to be something going on next door. Maybe my new neighbours are getting ready to move in.

Morning denizens
Cloudy day, and moving from drizzle to light rain and back. This will potentially continue through into mid-afternoon, though is more likely to stop by lunchtime. Fairly mild though, at 16°C with an expected high of 19°. The barometers are down some more at 992/1001mB
I see I neglected to sign off yesterday, so for the record: the usual crop of wildlife stuff, though largely repeats, included some interesting stuff about the desert elephants of the Namib, who've managed to make a go of living in an environment that's entirely unsuitable for them. Interestingly, during the Namibian war of independence between the mid 1960s and 1990, the elephants moved further north. But afterwards in the mid-1990s, they returned, suggesting that some memory of their former range may have been culturally transmitted through several generations
And later, I read a couple more chapters of The Nazi MindComment

No way I can take ll2 again this weekend. Hanging around for 20 mins yesterday for her to get ready and then she insisted on staying in another half hour to finish watching a damn tennis match. That was just the start of the annoying things. The only thing I ever liked about Wimbledon was Serena William's bum.Last edited by xoggoth; 6 July 2025, 10:50.bloggoth

Today's tedious but necessary task has been spring cleaning the bathroom. Mostly done now, except for wiping down the heated towel rail and washing the floor. The latter job can mostly be done with the steam mop, though there are bits it can't get to which will have to be done manually. I may just end up washing the whole thing by hand though; it's not a big room
As part of this process I've experimented with putting the shower curtain in the washer-dryer, though not with a drying phase as I can do without melted plastic all over the inside of the machine. The idea is to do it on 30°C (though some suggest 40°) along with a couple of towels to act as a kind of buffer. It's almost done now, so I'll soon find out whether this has been a resounding success, or I need to pop down the road past the park to The Range (formerly Homebase, which is where I got it) for a new oneComment

Pleased to report that the shower curtain turned as good as new - absolutely pristine!
That's better than I expected, so I'm really pleased with that
I think I'll put cleaning the floor off until after lunchComment
