That's the armchairs moved down to the storeroom of storerooms. Totally knackered now

I feel quite sad about getting rid of them, as I've had them for nearly thirty years. Before that they were with my sister and her husband, who I think had them re-covered, and they got them from our parents. But they don't just need re-covering now, they need completely reupholstering, and it's not really worth it - it's not as if they're antiques or anything

I've read a bit more of Trainspotting

Early night now as I need to be up early to shift two large armchairs and a washing machine outside by 7am

But at least tomorrow's the last day before my week off!

          Goodnight all

            Morning denizens

Very sunny start out there, clear blue sky and all that; quite a change from the last few days. Still quite mild to cool though, having just got up to 5°C and only aiming for 14°. The barometers are resurgent at 1000/1008mB

I was up betimes and down to the storeroom of storerooms, where I manhandled the armchairs outside to the small paved area between the small lawns along the frontage of our block and stacked them Tetris-style, one upside down on top of the other. Then it was time for the washing machine. I opened the storeroom and shifted out various bits of clutter that were in the way, then walked the washing machine out of there - well, slid more than walked, an inch or so this way, the same that way, gradually bringing it out. Luckily it's all one continuous smooth concrete floor. Once it was out, I tried to get it on the sack truck, but attempting to tilt it made ominous noises; I think the base of the machine would break before the sack truck did as that's quite a heavy duty thing, but I didn't want either to happen. It turned out I didn't need to tilt it - I could now push it easily, with the back of the sack truck at the front, across the floor. Once it was at the outside door, I had to wrestle it over the sill and walk it to where it was out of the way in front of the armchairs, but that wasn't too bad.

So now they sit there, basking in the sun like pit ponies brought to the surface for the first time, awaiting their ride

              And they're gone!

As I hit the post button I heard a noise outside and went for a look and the Bulky Waste Brigade were here, moving everything over to the back of their truck where they'd reversed into the drive. So I was able to watch as they loaded everything on, and off they went

                Morning.

                Thursday.

                Grey.

                Blue sky in parts.

                Dry.

                Wanly sunny.

Chilly in here at 14.3 deg, 12.5 in the kitchen, 12 in the leanto, 8.4 in the saltinghouse.

1008.5 mBar, 29.78 in Hg, 756.44 Torr, 14.627 psi, (up from 1004 last night), 58% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 9th of January 2020 LM installed her new monitor after resisting the temptation to send it back, NF remembered to make the bed, thusly avoiding later angst, LondonManc recommended some suppliers in Manchester, and I watched yet more of "Private Schultz" despite my Freecell score being stuck at the inevitable 82%.

                Washing frenzy in progress.

                Sun's out. Wanly.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the wan sunshine.

Washing seems to have dried successfully.

                Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: Sliced Bread waffling on about jet lag.

                TWATO.

Shirts & cottons in off the line & roughly iRoned: airing upstairs. Smalls in off the line & airing upstairs, leaving the towels until later.

Entertainment: The Infinite Monkey Cage best bits S2: Talking to s, Gods, Gambling, Failure.

Moved stuff & cleaned the Other Side of the living room. Even went into the cupboard to see if the rat trap had caught anything (it hadn't).

Tea: beans on toast, boiled eggs. Nice enough.

                Entertainment: PM. 18 o'clock news.

Mildly amusing NCIS ep repeat where a virus in the DOD has been running for 25 years & it was written by Tim McGee.

Wonderland: Science Fiction in the Atomic Age: Margaret Atwood to Ted Chiang. Stuff I've never read not being fond of inner space. It would seem unlikely at this stage that I ever will, life being too short for reading this sort of thing.

Episode 6 of The Musk Origin thing on R4: and lo! said ep quotes all of the above stuff I've never read, with the usual criticism of "Foundation" etc.

First 5 minutes and last 15 minutes of "Nobody". I like that film. .

                  Morning all

Clear blue sky. Not a wisp to be seen from my vantage point. Currently 9 degrees with a high of 16 expected. Cloud cover set to increase as the day progresses with a chance of showers from early afternoon onwards. Barometer up to 1012 mBar.

                  Sunrise 06:01; Sunset 20:02 BST

Went to bed too late last night. Tired this morning. Fortunately, the sentencing I promised to attend over in Bow is in the afternoon session so I didn't have to get up early. Having never been to court, I am hoping I can just sit in the public gallery for the one case being heard and not sit through the entire afternoon's list of ne'er do wells up for various misdemeanours.

Not sure if it applies to all courts, but at the Old Bailey you aren't allowed to take a phone into the court at all, even turned off. Or at least that's the situation when one of the characters in Caledonian Road goes there to watch the trial of one of his mates - it's set in 2021 so should be up to date. Might be worth checking with the court before you set off

Edited to add: Going through security at a court or tribunal building - GOV.UK suggests it should be OK, but you'll probably have to turn it off or at least set it on silent.

Not worried about mobile phones (have read the various guides to attending court). It's more that there's a heck of a lot of cases being heard this afternoon and I don't want to be stuck there all day when I want to just watch one.
