Apparently the NICE guidelines are that surgery should preferably be within 36 hours, or 48 hours at a pinch, as it results in a significantly reduced mortality rate. So over the last few years hospitals have changed their systems to give fractured hips a high priority for surgery

Tonight's main feature was Cool Hand Luke (1967), in which Paul Newman finds himself on a chain gang, eats a lot of eggs, and experiences a failure to communicate. Good stuff; the story is weirdly reminiscent of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, if it can be reminiscent of a film released eight years later - though of course the book came out five years before.

And a bit more of The West Wing ploughed through.

      Goodnight all
