    Knackered now.

Weeds cleared off the path near the house, upset the little toads.

Weeds cleared off part of the "patio*".

The grass/moss encroaching on the rest of the garden path hacked back to make it tidy, like.

Weeds cleared from the side of the laundry room, revealing a little orange coloured newt thing and a much large elephant hawk moth caterpillar.

The same area provided a nice crop of about 5 or 6 spuds that had grown from seed that I'd failed to find last year.

Also oiled the wheels on the wheely bin.

*i.e. the area between the laundry room and the tin shed that's got concrete paving covered in windfall apples, weeds, and brambles, with the odd gooseberry bush thrown in for good measure.

Well there's the latest ep of "Elementary" watched, with increasing irritation due to the sky box's decay.

This evening's cinematic epic was "The Departed" with Matt Damon, Leonardo di Caprio, Mark Wahlberg and Jack "here's Johnny" Nicholson.

It was extremely bloody and violent.

    Directed by Martin Scorsese.

Set in Boston so they could all be Irish American hoods instead of Italian American.

A bit like what was done by Sergio Leone with "Once upon a time in America" with Jewish American hoods.

It was 2hrs 25 minutes long.

"Once upon a time in America" is 3hrs 49mins.

I must watch it again sometime.

Now watching "Top Gun" which is all about automatic rifles, starting with the BAR.

Tonight's tea has been the last of the chicken in red wine out of the freezer, with homemade Cajun potato wedges and petits pois; and very, very nice it was

I hadn't made any wedges in ages. Dunno why not, as they're very easy to make and always turn out a treat. I made a load extra, which are cooling down ready to be stashed in the freezer

EDITED to add: the trick to freezing them is to take the surplus out of the oven halfway through and set them to one side. Then they finish off cooking when they go back in the oven from frozen

It's wonderful once you get in the way of it

No telly tonight, apart from a bit of 999 What's Your Emergency while I was eating dinner, as I fancied reading a bit then getting an early night.

No early night, though, as I couldn't stop reading until I'd finished the book. It's The 2020 Commission Report on the North Korean Nuclear Attacks Against The United States by Dr. Jeffrey Lewis, and it's absolutely brilliant though thoroughly unnerving. It takes the form of the final report by a US government commission to establish the cause of said attacks, and in both tone and circumstance it doesn't put a foot wrong. In particular, he's got Trump's manner of tweeting down to an absolute tee. Highly recommended.

          Goodnight all

At least it is rumoured that the installation of the shower tray will be performed today. As this is a slate composite affair and 1700*800mm it's a bit* heavy and so i've been unable to sort it myself, which would have been nice as all the tiling needs to be done after it's in and before all the rest of the stuff gets installed - so that'll be the plumbers offsite again for a few days/weeks/months.......

            * like very extremely

              Oh, and - Morning all

Today's sweltering temperature in the living room is 20.4, up a whole .4 degrees on yesterday.

The laundry room is sitting at 18.6 with an overnight min of 18.2.

Somehow yesterday it got itself up to the dizzy heights of 22 deg.

It's still grey and drizzly out there.

Happily enough, nothing seems to have shat outside the living room window, which is yet another plus.

                In with the hoi polloi.

                No Lego(tm).

                Yet.

The hoi polloi appear to be having some problems logging into FB.

Oh Dear, How Sad, Never Mind.

And the Net Nanny won't let me look at the goofs for "The Departed" coz it's "pornography".

                <hiatus>

                Bit of shopping done.

Lunch done. (More brunch than lunch since I've given up breakfast).

Saw blue sky for 5 minutes before the endless drizzle returned.

I'm never going to get the fecking gloss on at this rate.

Might try & get the linepost put up this afternoon since there's not a lot else to do.
