Fish fingers, chips, and beans for tea; very, very nice, much better than that Jamie Oliver stuff

Tonight's viewing was all three parts of the BBC's A Very English Scandal, concerning the odious Jeremy Thorpe's foolish plot to have his former lover Norman Scott murdered. I thought it was very good indeed

It brought back happy memories of reading many details of the case in Private Eye during the mid to late 1970s; I'm pretty certain most of the information about the whole sordid affair first came out in there before making its way to the mainstream press, though that wasn't mentioned. But at least they had a brief mention of Auberon Waugh standing against Thorpe in the May 1980 General Election on behalf of the Dog Lovers Party

        Goodnight all

          Cold shower?

          Surely you jest.

The water coming out of the cold tap is warm.

February, that's the time that Real Creators of Weapons of Mass Destruction enjoy a cold shower.

          Very bracing.

Don't you just hate it when that happens?

Yesterday evening's entertainment (once the filling of the skip was done for the day) was firstly the BBC4 thing about Castles, followed by the 5 thing about the Space Shuttle.

I started watching the increasingly mediocre Hawaii 50 before deciding that skip filling was more interesting.

And, whilst loading the wheelbarrow, I mightily pissed off the toad.

          Again.

Fascinating series. Even those who hate Hugh Grant admit he was very good. And that chappie from James Bind was excellent too.

When I heard John Le Mesurier I thought they meant the actor! Pleased when they made it clear he was not the actor.

There was a cat fight in the garden at 3.45 this morning.

My wife and mistress don't fight.

                    Morning denizens

                    Grey day again

Been a bit of an early start for me, for the gas man cometh: it being the day appointed for the annual inspection of the gas appliances. He usually does the downstairs flats first, meaning he gets round to me about half ten, but I'm not sure if he's even arrived yet.

Anyway, various arduous tasks have been undertaken, such as moving the kitchen table away from the fire in front of which it resides, said fire having last been lit on the occasion of last year's inspection.

Hopefully he'll turn up before too long and we can get it done, then I can start putting all the junk back where it belongs and get on with the shopping or something
