However I was struck by how far down market Homebase had descended since last I visited.

The retail park was extremely busy around two thirty. Is there a public holiday nobody told me about?

And now, a bacon cob

I went all over the bread rolls section of Sainsbury's trying to find the cobs (crusty) but they only had shelves and shelves of baps (soft). Eventually I gave up and wandered over to have a look at the loaves, only to find that the crusty rolls were in among them, stuck between all the fancy pseudo-foreign breads. Are crusty rolls really so exotic? Were they introduced to Britain by the Huguenots, like everything else?
