Being on the bench Fridays don't have that allure do they?

Stuff the weather it's timesheet/invoice day and at 3.30 its away for the train to see the family.

I shall then proceed to add in a M.2 into my T450s and get it to boot off windows 10 from that. Then I can use my Crucial M500 512GB SSD that has been in the box since I bought it last year as main storage drive.

There's imminent danger of having to meddle with one of the bits of the application that they wrote before they really knew what they were doing. In one way it would be good to sort it out, but the hacking and slashing involved might be a bit much for a Friday afternoon

I seem to have a habit of doing complex things on a Friday afternoon though. It's remarkable how productive the hour between 4:30 and 5:30 when everyone else has left for the week is....

A month ago I requested that the ClientCo change part of an interface. BOFP spec. Had been told it would be "no problem". Based on the request I was expecting about 1 week to get it approved and a week to get it developed.
Turns out they outsource their dev.
3.5 months of development, cost of $250k.


It's changing 10 fields in 4 tables.


...and I thought I charged too much and was slow.

Years ago as a permie someone complained when I quoted 2 weeks to add 4 fields on a webform -

It wouldn't have been that bad but the previous development team had used a really tulip ORM and hadn't packaged it up correctly to support future updates.. To make the change I needed to redo the entire ORM model from scratch...
