My throat is exceedingly sore, and I feel quite out of sorts - not quite aching all over, but feeling as if all over is just on the cusp of aching.

So today's plan is to do nothing much but rest and, probably, eat chicken soup until this evening, when I shall expend what little strength remains on going to see The Rutles

I'm sure there used to be an advert for one of those printing press things in lots of publications back in the day.

Why have you got one?

Back in the Seventies, letterpress printing was one of my main interests

I used to pursue it at the school press, and eventually was able to get my own Adana 8-5 and stuff and print at home.

My other main interest was the school computer, so I was basically into Information Technologies and not much else

It's been said that the problem with Adana's business was that their machines were so well designed and solidly built that they never needed replacing, and almost never needed spare parts, meaning that once they'd sold one it would be out there forever. As a result, there came a time when there were enough for the whole world and nobody needed to buy a new one

The last Adana 8-5 was sold in 1999, it seems. Mine was bought around 1975, as I recall. I still have the receipt, handwritten at the counter of their shop in Twickenham, to which my parents had taken me on a special excursion to buy it
