      He's gone away now.

      I don't think he's altogether computer literate.

More & more of this tulipe seems to assume that everyone is au fait with this technocrap.

And don't get me started on the machines in barclays bank.

Indeed. Let's take the most socially disadvantaged and require them to grapple with online systems that many highly-paid executives would struggle with (probably delegating it to their PAs or teenage children) before we'll provide them with basic social security (with small "s"s)

The fact that they're the people most likely to have had limited or no exposure to technology, and probably only ever reached a very low level of education, is hardly relevant

Do you watch 'how to get a council house' where the poor staff have to repeat again & again to the same people where is the paperwork we asked you for etc...

if 90% of them go via self service then it gives these people more time to make a difference.

Now there is a space for family & charity to help people with the machines.

In our local library there is a rep from the council most days.

                    WooHoo!

Apparently word came down from on high this morning that certain costs were in need of costing less, with the result that several contractors are being let go - I have two weeks left and I'm free!

It's certainly OK if done properly, but too often it isn't. The new system is imposed as the cuts are made, rather than ensuring that things are in place and running smoothly before removing the support. Bloody politicians, as always
