        However, after uninstalling MPLAB 8.1 and the HT C compiler and the CCS C compiler, rebooting, reinstalling MPLAB 8.1, rebooting, installing the CCS MPLAB integration plugin, rebooting, reinstalling the freebie version of CCS from a book, rebooting, I finally managed to get it work.

        Sort of.

        I suspect the earlier version of the CCS complier that resides on the machine was confusing things.

        I've even got it to compile in MPLAB using the CCS compiler with no errors...



        And I discovered how to get the MPLAB simulator to show the serial output in a window...
