I used Eximius briefly in 2016 and was also contacted by THL.
I was on the verge of registering with THL just to check out the terms 'loan settlement offer'. Not having KYC documentation at hand delayed that process for me and I then discovered the 5% + £250 fee, which obviated the need to provide THL with any more of my information.
I have since exercised my GDPR rights and asked them to delete any data they hold for me.
Reading many comments who agree that HMRC don't need loans to be written off for the purpose of the LC (but will probably charge IHT if that were to happen), I don't see the point of paying any more money to Eximius or whoever it is that they sold off their loan books to.
If THL or the trustees retained by Eximius decide to come after me with the pretense of 'recalling the loan', I would be happy to defend myself in a court of law. One thing I refuse to do is pay these people any more money on the back of whatever they already swindled from me.

They claim to be acting on behalf of trustees employed by Eximius and a few other brands. The trustees in question are listed as:
    1. ECS International Trustees (Isle of Man) Ltd.
    2. Professional Independent Trustees Ltd.

      Hi Rebecca,

Do you have a number that I can reach you on?

I’m not going through THL as I don’t trust what eximius or their associated partners are offering.

We’ve gone directly to HMRC, see what their pack entails and then decide what will the best option after that.

I suspect eximius will try their dirty tricks to claim some money for release of loan, which I’ve discussed with some experts, who have advised it will laughable, they have no chance.

Struggling to get sorted... Don't trust THL. Please help!

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I worked via Eximius in 2016 and now have received correspondence from THL. I am not prepared to pay a load of £ I don't need to and having since refused to pay money to the City firm recommended by THL I have registered with HMRC to pay for any tax due. However I cannot fill out the forms without some information from Eximius about the loan etc. I guess I need help from an accountant or tax lawyer as THL won't reply to my correspondence and you can't ring them. Any advice would be really appreciated.

            Hi Bazia,
If you take a look at your bank statements plus any monthly paperwork Eximus may have sent out, you should be able to see how much was loaned to you.
You could also talk to Webberg who works for WTT or Phil @DSWTRES as they will be able to give you more advice.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

Check your bank statements, the Eximius payments would have hit your personal account as a smaller payment (salary) and a larger payment (loan). Depending on your model (limited co or employed by Exim), your salary payments would have been declared either as employment income or self employment income by the specialist accountant Exim asked you to hire with the service.
So assuming your ‘salary’ payments have been duly declared in your SATRs (check to make sure), you only have to declare the sum total of the larger payments received from Exim.
In the declaration, for the sake of transparency, also state that smaller payments received were declared in the year’s SATR.

Also in a bad position thanks to Eximius/ Trust Firm/ HMRC

                Hi,

Very reassuring to know others are in the same boat.

Really could use some advice at this stage as to where to turn to next.

Like others I have no idea who to trust regarding the years that I was with Eximius.

For me Eximius have shutdown, re-started under Previse (They are getting a call tomorrow).

In the meantime some group of Trustees have taken it upon themselves to start chasing former Eximius customers and also contact HMRC with former customer names! Very helpful and totally against what they promised.

                This is a real mess.

As I say any help is appreciated.

I can be reached on [email protected]

                Many thanks

                    Time to Fight

                    Dear all,

I along with 2 others (that we are aware of) used Eximius when we were working abroad, but in the EU.

THL are a new company run by and older lady and young lady of 19, it was all part of a plan for sure. It's pretty obvious what's happened to all of us and frankly disgusting.

In my opinion it's a bit like the PPI scandal. Read this article - https://www.theguardian.com/business...andal-unfolded

I have someone acting on our behalf and we wrote to Eximius and to date have to my knowledge not received a reply. We have received a standard letter from HMRC which uses ambiguous language, which I believe is designed to frighten people and extract monies quietly to avoid bringing about a scandal.

How innocent members of the Public are being used to be the fall guys / gals is beyond me. Someone here is making money through deceit, I have an idea how. Whilst morally wrong, morals do not put you in Prison.

Our team are going to fight it and one of our lot said, we are stronger together, he is spot on. Currently we are waiting for our consultant to advise on our next move and I will inform the forum.

An email address being used for this is [email protected]

                      Dire straits

                      Hi All,

It's such a relief to scroll through and read some of these messages. I thought I was the only one.

I thought Eximius were deep down in my past, I haven't worked under them since 2016 and even then I was only a client for just over a month. My recruitment company rejected them in audit. I never signed the paperwork they sent to my address but it looks as though I did receive one payment from them, which I have only just discovered.

Any advice about how to approach this with HMRC. I have also been sent the ambiguously worded letter. I have sent a response via email but anyone gotten further with them?

I now live outside of the UK and have not contracted since 2016. What a nightmare!

                      Good luck to all!
