But that does presuppose that you are yourself a contractor and not in fact an agent, MaryPoppins ?

I negotiate the rate I'm happy with, dependant on the role, location etc. Their cut is irrelevant to me. If they manage to get me the rate I want, as well as a good cut for themselves, then good on them.

Why does your statement 'presuppose' that, Boo?

I think the selling point is to the client more than the contractor. Hence the use of markup rather than margin.

(Recruitment) companies - check them out BEFORE things go wrong!

You need to be able to trust a company. If there are no matches to the searches below, the company is breaking the law. Do you want to do business with such a company?

Edit: 27/05/14 just to let everyone know that Hireonomy now have their VAT listed on their site and note that they are a trading name of Deerfoot IT Resources Ltd.

As for the rest of the complaint - yes, we are rude. That's what happens when agents post on a contractor's forum.

Thanks for the feedback on the website, I have mentioned this to our Web developers and they will investigate and fix as necessary.

@TheFaQQer - Regarding rate - yes, I did mean Mark-Up, and not Margin.

@MaryPoppins - being open about the rate we charge (and we DO only charge 7% mark-up) DOES have an impact on you. If a client has a finite budget, and are using an Agency who charge 15%+ MARGIN they may not contact you for a Contract as they would have less to spend on the Contractor. <mod snip>
@Boo - yes, we've (Deerfoot Group) have been going for a long time.. since 1997... and have made a profit each year. The reason Hireonomy has been formed is to try and change the feeling/animosity towards Agencies, which is clearly visible here.... and quite rightly so in many cases. It is you, the Contractor, who is doing the hard work afterall - why should an Agency charge 15, 18, 25% Margin on your hard work.

@Mudskipper - you're right - our service IS aimed more at the Client, however I think that it is important for the Contractor to know also, and we openly disclose this throughout.

As I said at the beginning... thanks for the feedback.

Hopefully, over time, you'll come to see that not all Agencies are the same and wont tar us all with the same brush.

And take the trouble to read the T&Cs to this forum.

Another link to your website will be considered advertising...

Exactly, PC. Indeed, saying this marks out an agency as being just the same as other agencies.

We will see whether the OP is different from other agents and faces up to his errors by continuing to engage in this thread, or whether he slinks away like all the others.

Doubtful. If your USP is your low mark up, then I'd definitely tar you with the same brush as most.
