What I don't understand (ok, one of the many things), is why haven't UKIP managed to persuade some tory media whore existing MP to cross the floor.

As I understand it others have left their party but remain as an independent MP. AFAIK it doesn't trigger a by-election

Is there a parliamentary reason why it can't be done? Or would it just be political suicide?

What would they achieve by swapping parties. Its not likely Nigel would allow himself to be replaced on TV opportunities....

In any case as the election starts to appear on people's radar I think many people will change their opinion. Those who are anti-all political parties will remain with UKIP, those who are really anti-labour will return to the Tories.
