There is a leak of Putins demands to stop aggression -

    1) moved presidential elections in Ukraine
    2) Ukraine never join EU
    3) Ukraine never join NATO

    Outrageous if true.
Do you think he'll go as far as all out war in wider Ukraine if he doesn't get what he wants? Would mean a hell of a body count on both sides, even with the propaganda machine that won't go down well at home.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

At this stage he has successfully demonstrated that he is a psycho that is prepared to do that and now it's Wests turn to show what it's prepared to do in response.

Effective guerilla resistance in Crimea is harder than in mainland Ukraine, especially if he'd try to get further regions that are a lot less pro-Russian. After WW2 many Ukrainians in the western part of country were still fighting USSR in forests, I think for around 10 more years.

That's kind of what i'm thinking. Crimea is a quick smash and grab, any more would result in a bloody and protracted war, with some western support of the opposition, and I don't think he's ready to start another Afghanistan.

Lavrov (foreign minister who looks like Joachim von Ribbentrop) said Russia got no plans to invade south of Ukraine... is that admission that plans were in place for Crimea or just total lie...

Just had a chat with a friend of mine in the Ukraine.

I am dumbfounded. What's ACTUALLY happening there is so far from the Western or Russian press.

So what is ACTUALLY happening there then?

Sorry Doodab, had to rush off out to dinner with her indoors.

So to set the scene, my buddy lives in central Ukraine, in a sleepy little backwater. When I was there back in 2011 there was still horsedrawn vehicles on the road running up to their town.

So it would be logical to think they are yet to see what is happening. You'd be wrong. He tells me the bus numbers are now in Russian. Also that Putin has sent in bus loads of Russian Nazis, and these same nazis are conducting a circus going from town to town demonstrating, all in a staged act just for TV.

The Ukranians are peaceful people, with no Naziism, and no desire to remain under Russian control. They want to join the EU.

They hate Putin and are scared.

More follows but I am knackered.

                    What basically happened is this:

                    1) for many years Putin had policy of weakening Ukraine - economic war was waged with Ukraine being forced to pay higher gas prices than Germany
                    2) in recent years Putin backed president who followed pro-Russian policy, yet he pretended he'd sign up to EU deals
                    3) During time of last president corruption reached crazy levels even by standards of Ukraine
                    4) When Putin upped the stake and EU deal was off, a lot of people in Ukraine had had enough and went onto peaceful protest
                    5) At peak point unknown snipers killed lots of people (around 100 dead) and that forced end of previous president who run to save his life to Russia - after that hundreds of millions of euros he never was supposed to have had got blocked all around europe
                    6) That caught Putin out and he got angry and activated his long prepared plan of Crimea invasion

Since Nazi times there was never such a blatant military aggression undertaken in Europe - it's completely unprecendented.

All this tulip is direct result of West tolerating Putin for the last 15 years - he should have been in Hague for crimes against humanity in Chechnya, yet West closed eyes on this, then on many other things, finally on war in Georgia which Putin prepared much better (also during Olympics), but now aggression is so naked that even his best supporters in Germany abandoning him, but it's a bit too late because he frankly does not give a flying monkey about some sanctions. Too little too late.

Tomorrow take a day off and visit your local GP - register a complaint of some serious illness, because otherwise you'd having Xmas in trenches near Kiev.
