You still have not yet explained why I would loose my UK citizenship."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark Twain -
But not the ones that live there and so will be affected? All the Scots living comfortably in South-East England get a say on whether Scotland leaves the UK, safe in the knowledge that they can keep the advantages of living in the UK, and the poor people of Scotland are the ones who have to live with it? That's a great vision of democracy you have.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostThe people born there should be the ones deciding on the future of the country.
My brother was born in Cyprus, does he get a vote on Cypriot affairs but not one in the UK?
Well "lose" would be the word I'd use, but no. It was your suggestion that it's where you were born that should count. If Scotland ends up outside the EU, then there's going to be an advantage to the people of Scotland and "Scots" keeping a UK passport, but that's hardly fair when they've voted to leave the UK. It just yet another reason why the whole idea of independence is stupid. Are you suggesting I'd loose my UK passport because I was born in Scotland? Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

I never said you would. I said that those who vote to give up UK citizenship would lose their UK citizenship, or ought to. You don't get a vote, ergo you would presumably have a choice of which country to be a citizen of.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostYou still have not yet explained why I would loose my UK citizenship. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It would be win-win. The Scots would forever be rid of the London, Eton and Tories that they hate so much.Comment

Wouldn't it be fairer if the people living there decided? They are ones it will mainly effect on a day to day basis.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostThe people born there should be the ones deciding on the future of the country.
If Scotland becomes an independent country will all Scots still keep UK passports and citizenship?Originally posted by scooterscot View PostAre you suggesting I'd loose my UK passport because I was born in Scotland?
This is another thing I freely admit to knowing nothing about but it made sense to me that if you want a separate country then you get a separate country and you are a citizen of that one without automatic citizenship of another country?Comment

As a Scot now living quite happily down south, I sense that this debate is starting to drift away from the really important issues regarding Scotland.
Namely........who else would like to knock the back end out of that tasty bint that skippered the women's curling team to Olympic glory?
Phwoaarrr!!!

Ubba Ubba!!!

Exactly and you certainly can't vote to leave a country and expect to keep citizenship, that's just ridiculous.Originally posted by MyUserName View PostThis is another thing I freely admit to knowing nothing about but it made sense to me that if you want a separate country then you get a separate country and you are a citizen of that one without automatic citizenship of another country? While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. Why should people who don't live or work in a country get to vote in that country? Surely it's the people who actually live there and pay taxes that get to vote.Originally posted by scooterscot View PostThe people born there should be the ones deciding on the future of the country.
If you want to move back to Scotland to live, work and pay taxes then I'm sure you will be very welcome to vote.Free advice and opinions - refunds are available if you are not 100% satisfied.Comment

I don't think he gets to vote in Germany either though, except in the European elections. I didn't when I was there.Originally posted by Wanderer View PostWhy should people who don't live or work in a country get to vote in that country?
