Of course they should have a vote, it's their home as it was mine. The difference between someone who has moved there 6 months ago and myself being the product of many generations of birthright is not the same however.

This is another thing I freely admit to knowing nothing about but it made sense to me that if you want a separate country then you get a separate country and you are a citizen of that one without automatic citizenship of another country?
My wife is from Bath, our Children born in Munich. Three of us have the automatic right to a Scottish passport. No one is saying anything about giving up UK passports.

Interestingly the German government is offering our daughters a German passport should the remain in the country until schooling age.

Of those Germans I've spoken with no one thinks for a minute those from Scotland that had the right to work here one minute and be ejected tomorrow would ever happen. It's utter tosh.

I agree. And for those of us that don't have a vote?

Exactly the point I made. Well done for catching up eventually.

As a European citizen I cannot vote on German matters despite paying taxes here.

People born in a country is not the same as people moving there fresh off the boat from China. But that's the whole point. This referendum is not an identify competition despite the media's best attempt to bang on about "The Scot's this" "The Scot's that", if it really were true the Scots were deciding the future of Scotland the Scots (i.e. people born there - get it?) live across the world.

So why would I lose me UK citizenship? That is what you have suggested.

The betting exchange money is still on a no vote today:

Yes 5.3 (Decimal back odds To 1)
No 1.22 (Decimal back odds To 1)

Flipping heck, it's like trying to explain something to a brick wall, except I think the wall would have got it by now.

                  No I didn't.

                  I said

you would presumably have a choice of which country to be a citizen of.
But I don't see why you should get to keep both necessarily.

                    And if I don't choose?

There will be a default option based on place of birth perhaps.

Personally I think the choice would need to be offered to everyone of Scottish birth, whether they had a vote or not, as clearly some of them would have voted no and might prefer to remain UK citizens.

Your best bet would be to ask Mr Salmond, I'm sure he has a plan
