I wear out chains, sprockets and bottom brackets fairly frequently. It's the amount of torque going through to lift my ample frame up the hills.
I did some calculations on weight and power, and I have to average around 200W output. A Tour de France cyclist averages 250W. A skinny accomplice was averaging 150W.
It's a big difference. This is why I did the ligaments in my right knee 2 years ago while going for the burn up the final hill to my house. Surgery or physio needed they told me. I have found that yoga is a big help. Apparently as we get crusty, the muscles deteriorate and due to our natural design the kneecaps pull inwards.
So now I have yoga sessions around twice a week. Got my plank up to 30s now, and 15 seconds both side planks.
Got throat infection at the minute, so feel a bit crap. SY02 brought it into the house.
Didn't stop me doing an hour's badminton last night though.
Got thrashed mind
