You get income based JSA if you haven't made enough national insurance contributions which is what the Polish etc can get. However they have to meet the habitual residence provision like UK citizens who are returning from abroad i.e. you have to prove your main home is in the UK.

The fact the DWP is sanctioning people who are UK habitually resident and have paid NI contributions it's unlikely they are going to let someone whose just come of the boat sign up immediately.
Yes that figures, for example I paid Swiss National Insurance but kept my flat in Germany, when I was laid off I was eligible for unemployment benefit because of my Swiss contributions and I could have also claimed JSA in the UK I believe. In the end I didn't because I wanted to look for a contract.

In fact the Swiss would have paid benefits direct and would have supported me looking for work in the UK if I had had a good case, and I think this is normal throughout Europe, so there would be absolutely no case for any one coming to the UK simply to get benefits.

    It's a bit of a non-issue really.
    I'm alright Jack

Seems to me that all the little Englanders are the ones moaning about free movement of Euro nationals, while those who are better educated see that it's a two way street and provides opportunities too.
So if you are a little Englander, stop being so. If a Pole takes your job here, move to Germany - you'll probably be surprised at the welcome you get.
Unless of course you're a fooking lazy whinger who wants it all on a fooking plate.

        Hard Brexit now!

I've benefitted from both sides, having earnt good money in Germany and France and worked with some great EU guys over the years. I dont reckon any of them are claiming benefits though.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Knew I'd forgotten to sign in as soon as I read more utter crap from Sasguru. Not everyone has high ability and not everyone can succeed if they only put more effort into it. That's a bit of rightist nonsense, a variation on the leftist notion that everyone has equal ability if we only waste enough money on them, and just as contrary to proven reality.

We should be helping the less able in our own society by improving education, reducing access to welfare and getting them into productive jobs, not making it harder and harder for them to compete against cheap migrants.

There is no leftist notion that everyone had equal ability, hence the phrase:

To each according to their needs, from each according to their ability.

There is no leftist notion that etc
I am talking about the modern nutty middle class notions. Nobody sane can believe it literally but they certainly are prepared to spend an awful lot of money and effort to very little effect in striving towards it, and, in opposing selection in schools for example, do so at the expense of the more able.

Marx was a real socialist and much more sensible. How his mantra is compatible with the idea that people should remain in houses that are too big for them or in areas that no working man could afford to live in is beyond me.

Yeah very deranged - ask any historian or any MEP the reasons why the Common Market came into existence. One of the reasons was to to prevent war. You are unlikely to fight someone who you have a lot of common aims including trade links with. You only have to look at the countries who were part of the former Yugoslavia or people in Iraq to see when they had a common enemy they were less inclined to kill each other.
