I wonder why many socialist parties in Europe like the NL's SP and Germany's Die Linke believe the EU is becoming a capitalist super-state. I think Britain's Socialist Worker Party might hold similar opinions but I'm not sure. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014 -
You just have to look at many of the ridiculous policies of the EU to realize that it is socialist, going on communist. Such as:
The human rights act
Benefits for migrants
Ban on national resurrections of the death penalty
Belief in global warming & promotion of green energyComment

Caring about other people isn't a political viewpoint. Neither is your view on the validity of global warming theories.

So the USSR was capitalist, since they had no human rights, no benefits for migrants (let alone their own people), killed millions and polluted the environment?Originally posted by KentPhilip View PostYou just have to look at many of the ridiculous policies of the EU to realize that it is socialist, going on communist. 2 The EU only states that people must have equal access to contribution based welfare systems. Britain rather stupidly goes further and gives everyone the right to non contribution based benefits, which it doesn't have to do and most EU countries don't. In fact, if I try to get 'bijstand' in NL I can be deemed to be living off the state and ordered to leave, and the EU will do nothing to prevent that.
3 Do you want the death penalty to return? Would you like to join Belarus and Russia as the only European countries that execute criminals? What has this to do with socialism?
4 Most political parties do that regardless of their position on the EU, but the EU does not dictate to people what they believe or don't believe. Anyway, what have scientific disagreements to do with socialism and capitalism? And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

Theirs was the natural conclusion of socialism which is that they ran out of money and had nowhere to go. What starts off as "good intentions" - i.e human rights, and all the rest was because it showed that socialism "only works" if it is made to. This means surrendering all power to the state.Originally posted by sasguru View PostSo the USSR was capitalist, since they had no human rights, no benefits for migrants (let alone their own people), killed millions and polluted the environment?

The EU is in the early stages of gathering power for itself. Stage one is to bring more people under its control (benefits for all) and make itself look worthy, honest and caring (human rights, environment) so that you suckers are all taken in by it
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

If contractors want to remain in the top one percent of the worlds richest people then I hope he can vote. For the rest of you hypocrites who seem so eager to sign away your ill gotten status I suggest you keep away from polling boothsOriginally posted by Old Greg View PostAre you allowed to vote?Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

So you're arguing that because the socialists needed a powerful state they made the state more powerful, and I can follow you there; what I don't follow is your argument that it goes the other way, that an organisation 'gathering power' (and I could argue that point as well) is necessarily moving toward socialism. There are plenty of supranational organisations that never became socialist. In fact I think that throughout history most supranational organisations didn't become socialist.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostTheirs was the natural conclusion of socialism which is that they ran out of money and had nowhere to go.
