I thought that was quite stylish actually. Typical public school prank if you like. Much more enterprising than claiming for a new TV or a few extra pizzas. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014 -
I actually don't see what the problem was. He was explicit in what he was claiming for, the person who approved the claim was negligent in actually letting it through......Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostI thought that was quite stylish actually. That's because the pen-pushers who are supposed to be monitoring the conduct of 'important' people usually are reluctant to do so even if that's what they're paid to do. Why? Because they are themselves unethical and only care about pleasing 'important' people to improve future prospects.Originally posted by eek View PostI actually don't see what the problem was. I am sorry but you are wrong. Culturally we are less corrupt and we have laws and a free press that make corruption considerably more difficult than elsewhere.Originally posted by JPennW View PostI tend to ageee with Op, we're just as corrupt as everyone else as it's human nature. We're just better at pretending not to be. Remember the MP who claimed 20k for moat clearance? He thought that was perfectly acceptable as the system he was involved in, the UK government, made it perfectly acceptable. It was only the media and the public outcry that had any effect. Now they're just better at hiding their crimes.
If the government are so blasé about it, why should anyone else be different? At least in Africa they're openly corrupt!Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

So why did we find out about the MP's expenses?Originally posted by masonryan View PostThat's because the pen-pushers who are supposed to be monitoring the conduct of 'important' people usually are reluctant to do so even if that's what they're paid to do. Is it to do with a free press, people who went off to speak to journalists and tell them what they'd seen going on, and then an investigation that resulted in prosecutions?
Yes, there's corruption in the UK, but in a really deeply corrupt country, you'd never have found out about this. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

We're just as rational, self interested and prone to bouts of stupidity. That's not the same thing as corrupt though.Originally posted by JPennW View PostI tend to ageee with Op, we're just as corrupt as everyone else as it's human nature.
