Because it's moronic. It's just a populist measure, it's not in the interest of the country either way. 99% of people won't be able to make an informed decision, and will just be lead by whatever prejudice the newspapers and UKIPers are selling (chances are half the population won't turn up anyway). If the result is to leave the EU then it'll be the biggest triumph of stupidity over common sense in history, and if the vote is to stay in, the whole thing will have been a collosal waste of time, money and paper.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostAnd why not have an EU referendum? Will work inside IR35. Exactly the same argument could have been made when the UK decided to join. This is what the Europhiles are agruing and I am afraid it is Bo**ocks.Originally posted by VectraMan View PostBecause it's moronic. Why do you call people who think Britain should stay in, or people who oppose referenda 'Europhiles'?Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostExactly the same argument could have been made when the UK decided to join. I removed "UKIP" from your post, but now it would appear to be an argument against voting in general, wouldn't it?Originally posted by VectraMan View PostBecause it's moronic. So, do you propose a dictatorship, a return to the monarchy, or something else?Comment

Can't speak for him but personally I'm happy with representative democracy. That means you vote for people that you think will take decisions that are in the best interests of all in the long run, and if you feel they aren't doing that, you vote for someone else next time.Originally posted by Ticktock View PostI removed "UKIP" from your post, but now it would appear to be an argument against voting in general, wouldn't it?

Unless of course you are part of a system that passes laws irrespective of which party controls your country.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostCan't speak for him but personally I'm happy with representative democracy.
