WHS. I quite like the idea of letting the Tories do all the big important stuff, but having the LibDems in there too just to try to keep the nutter wing of the Tory party in check, and stop them doing anything moronic, like having an EU referrendum. Will work inside IR35. Or for food. -

Do you really think 65 million cretins can take a better decision than 650 cretins?Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostAnd why not have an EU referendum? And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

Erm, dunno. OK, I'm not in favour of pulling out of the EU but I think it should return to being a free trade zone, so my cards are on the table, but I don't really believe in referenda. I think it undermines the whole idea of representative democracy and creates a lot of unnecessary uncertainty as a binary decision is handed to people who don't have the understanding of the issues that should be expected from people working in government every day. Obviously, not all the people in parliament are really all that smart either, but you can at least expect them to have access to good advice and the numbers. I also think the solution to the problems with the EU is not a simple 'in or out'; there are several shades in between which may actually be a lot better for al concerned. I'm just not comfortable with referenda, even if I think they're going to go 'my' way. Maybe it's an old fashioned tory thingOriginally posted by DodgyAgent View PostIsn't that what happens at Contractor renewal time?

At this rate, the Lib Dems won't have enough seats to form a coalition.Originally posted by doodab View PostAs many of the better policies have been lib dem ones (particularly the higher tax allowance, which should go much further IMO) I'm hopeful there will be another coalition to reign in the worst excesses of whichever bunch of lunatics actually wins.
So you end up with a minority government held to ransom by some of the nationalist parties, like Major had.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI hadn't really understood this 'pwned' expression until I read DirtyDog's post.Comment

Yay another 5 years of open door immigration, grovelling to the EU and green tax lunacy.
Hurrah for the Labour/Liberal/Conservative government*.
