My last IB gig was mostly writing apps for dumping massive amounts of data from the DB into excel spread sheets. Soul destroying stuff really. Excel was king and the notion of taking whatever logic they had on their spread sheets and placing it in an application was never going to be on the menu. Of course there was always stale data issues with folk passing round 2 year old files.

Why GAS if you can earn bags of money writing VBA?
What these low-rate third-rate provincial geeks who work for substandard clients in Swindon and the NE don't realise is that no-one gives a fook if they've mastered the arcane points of C++.

Not if you play battlefield, I've got a 26" screen and it's only just viable

I really want a 32" screen sat on my desk

You have a point, however the high frequency trading systems and stat arb systems that prop desk use will be written in C++ and deployed as close to the exchange as possible.

How come I'm still using my 24" inch 2006 white iMac on a daily basis without any failures to date? Perhaps it's a user thing.
