    WHS

This is one of the reasons people who newly acquire money send their kids to the best private school they can get them into. You can't buy taste you have to learn, and if your parents have no taste then your peers at your private school will teach you.

Have you ever seen the aftermath of a crash twixt something like a clio and GL320? I have. Wife also has to safely transport many kids to and from school/activities.

I love seeing such a spiritual person get so upset about the most trivial things.

Dont talk rubbish. If you drive carefully you wont crash. Why are you justifying using a gas guzzling environment killing tractor on some imaginary crash when its your driving ability that you need to work on ?

Anyway, SUVs are common and naff. Jaguar should stay well away from them, except if they're helping to build a new LR.
They fill a nice gap for people who have kids and don't want to go down the people carrier route, I guess. I have to say, I can't really understand why anyone without kids/a dog would go for one.

Agree with your statements on chavs.
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

So crashing is all down to me then, no one else has any impact?

          Foolish boy in the corner.

MTT, your car weighs 1.791 tonnes. It's a fact.

Parents have to have 3 ton SUVs because they're scared of what will happen when they crash into another parent who's driving a 3 ton SUV. Therefore we have more and more and bigger and bigger SUVs. It's like a mumsnet style arms race. Of course, they can't let the kids cycle to school ' because of all those huge SUVs; they might get squashed'. Really, I heard this argument from a woman who lives in the exclusive suburb 'Laren' where every other car is a huge 4X4 barn on wheels.

I once noticed a young chap putting 'polluter' stickers on SUV's in that village, as a protest against the environmental damage; I advised him that the 'upwardly mobile' are much more sensitive to being put down as lacking style or taste, and suggested he went off and ordered some 'pleb' stickers to put on them instead. He chuckled and thanked me for this suggestion; I have yet to see whether he has followed up on this. I do hope so.

Style is so subjective MTT, do you not drive a nigh on 2 tonne 4.2 Supercharged Jaguar? Some would consider that vulgar, no?

Those of inferior style may consider it vulgar. It may indeed be vulgar to avoid overtly displaying the power of the engine, opting simply for a tiny 'R' added to the label on the back which can be removed quite easily. It may be vulgar to choose a car that's about the same height as other cars and so doesn't obscure everyone's vision when parking. It may be vulgar to choose a car that has no add-on plastic spoilers or 'go faster stripes'. It may even be vulgar to drive a car that has fairly normal looking exhausts instead of the huge dustbins that adorn many slower cars. If so, then I am proud to be truly vulgar.

And Jaguar should not build a SUV because they're for chavs.

People buy cars for all sorts of reasons, some like cars, some don't, so you'll have some people putting a good deal of money into cars, and others who are quite happy to drive around in a 4k jetta. Style doesn't come into it, for it's so subjective, it can't be looked at logically in an argument. I notice you are talking to this man putting stickers on SUV's whilst your own car puts out more harmful emissions and uses more fuel than most and, to be honest, I don't know who I would laugh at most if I was witnessing this scene.

I drive a 2.8 tonne GL320CDI and I love it. It is the most comfortable way to travel I have found in over 30 years of motoring, it has nearly every conceivable safety device a car could have, and has been 100% reliable to date. Personally, I love it, better than a Range Rover in so many ways. To mock people who buy SUV's is akin to mocking them for their choice of clothes, or furniture and shows more light on your own personality, than theirs.

To mock them from your own position MTT, is absurdly funny.

Be proud then MTT, and I'll giggle from afar.

He didn't realise my car pumps out enough CO2 to kill lots of baby seals and drown Amsterdam because my car is subtle; that's the point.

And if you really wanted a smart Mercedes 4X4, you'd get a G-Class. That is quite good taste.
