    THey're not all chelsea tractors
Wouldn't that be any 4WD/AWD regardless if its an SUV or not

True, anything will do it functionality I care about but 90% of buyers want something fashionable

The real growth market is 4WD SUVs that can masquerade as a van for tax purposes
£200 road tax, lower benefit in kind if you expense it

        Maybe the new one's heavier.

Why do you think you see so many Nissan Navara doublecabs driven

Some of the sporty Audi saloon cars have 4WD, but they also have font spoilers and under panels 10mm above the road surface, so not much good in 6 inches of snow, which can lie on the ground for weeks oops north.

A chelsea tractor at least has ground clearance.

                No, we're talking the 2004 XJR 4.2

Maybe you're quoting for the smoking versions

Kerb Weight: 3948 LBS 1790.5 KG

                weight 1791 kg / 3948 lbs

Kerb weight: 3,946 lb (1,790 kg)

                Curb weight: 4000 lb

Curb Weight, lb 4190 - This one probably wet

                curb weight: 1791 kg / 3948 lbs

So, all in all, about 1.8 tonnes dry then.

Because they're classed as commercial vehicles...

No, 'Rijklaar gewicht' on that page shows the weight of the Jaguar XJ-R with 90% full fuel tank and a 75kg passenger, as it has been registered by the Dutch road authorities. now if you're going to allege that Jaguar are lying to the authorities about this, fine, but take that up with the Dutch government and not me.

I don't know about other XJ variants, but the XJ-R was made from aluminium, and that's why it's relatively light.

Anyway, I don't care; I find SUVs hideous, chavvy and plebby and Jaguar shouldn't lower itself to that.

No MTT, sorry, but that would be a cooking version. As I have shown, the XJR made in 2004, was around 1.8 tonnes. That's pretty much a fact. As for lying, I have shown 8 publications showing, pretty much, the same thing. All XJ's from that era (X350 I think), were alluminium. The extra weight was probably for the extra cylinders, bigger block and Rootes supercharger over the cooking versions, which had lightweight 3.0 V6 engines, and cloth interiors. It's why I queried your initial 'modest' comment. If you want, I could even go into Glasses guide for you and get the definitive, but I am sure you'd not believe that either. 2/3rds of a tonne over the average car weight in Europe is not Modest, nor is the XJR.

                      SUV's are fine.
