Miranda nonsense

Whilst the original detention may not have been wise, and may or may not have been justified, I'm getting a little bit sick of this guy constantly whining now. Everytime he opens his mouth it's to launch another complaint about how much psychological and emotional damage this has done to him.

I also just read some comment from him about how he didn't know what he was carrying - he trusted that it wasn't anything illegal because of the people who gave it to him. I wonder if the girls in Peru will try that defence next.

I also think it's a bit wierd that this guy, not a journalist or employed by the paper, was carrying documents owned by the paper and apparently doing work related to those materials, just because of who his boyfriend is. Maybe they'll get him on tax evasion instead.

Apparently a section of Anti Terrorism act removes a lot of normal safe guards on police work in certain places like airports etc.

It wasn't UK data in the first place, so not clear what business UK got with that leak in the first place in abscence of clear US request that is permissible under current laws.

Abuse of power springs to mind especially bearing in mind destruction of property in the Guardian.

This sort of tulip belongs to 3rd world countries run by power crazy dictators.

I hope the police read Miranda rights...

He deserves to have electrodes attached to his nads. Which should have been the only thing that would have forced him to divulge his password in the first place.

Apart from the fact that if you're held by this law, which is only ports, airports, etc. you have no rights to a lawyer...

He should have demanded Brazilian consulate to be involved and not say a word before HIS lawyer is present.

He would probably never get visa to UK after that though, but I reckon he probably would not even want to fly transit via Heathrow now.

He was no entitled to a lawyer, the law of the land does not apply in the transit area.
