Go Mich. Fight for people's right to pay a seedy landlord to sleep in his shed without adequate heating and no tenancy rights. Who do the council think they are, trying to force landlords to treat tenants like people... it's working fine in India to cram them all in boxes!

Yep. But it stems from the whole "own a house and you've made it" theory - most countries measure their economic prosperity by GDP or GNP or some such economic measure, whereas the UK measure it on house prices.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostA seperate issue, but sort of crucial in the whole story?
And the simple way to boost that is to have next to no cheap property available.
Couple that with a perception that living in the UK is great, and we get to the mess that we are in these days.

No, I think you should read what I said; I'm raising the issue of people being unable to afford decent housing and you are twisting my words to suggest I'm fighting for the right to pay seedy landlords.Originally posted by d000hg View PostGo Mich. Erm, quite a lot actually due to investment income in the UK. Certain types of income are taxed in the country where they're earned, others are taxed where you reside, others you can choose where to pay tax under dual taxation treaties. Long story to do with taxation treaties, ever so boring, so I leave it to the accountants.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View Post

Those RAF pilot types play games and bet drinks etc on various types of sightings. A cyclist in a pink top, photographed in their telescopic sights, might score a round of drinks or something.Originally posted by mudskipper View PostKeep seeing them (or possibly the same one) round these parts.
Last week on my bike ride I thought "There's that Chinook again" and wondered if its pilot was thinking "There's that cyclist in the pink top again".
One just has to hope they don't inadvertantly press the wrong button while you're in the cross hairs, and start the gatling gun

of course I'm prepared to believe the Standard and even government sources might be a bit right wing but the Graunaid and the Independent also seem to believe the majority of tenants are illegal migrants. The Guardian did manage to include 'due to the benefits cap' which made me grin.
Sorry Mitch you are talking round spherical objects. They are relevant, however I suspect the situation is so bad (6000 properties) they want to keep quiet about the residents immigration status.Comment

It'll be interesting to see what the council do next. Will they go around all 6000 sheds and investigate them? Will they be building a little camp for all the illegal immigrants while they're being checked out? Will they provide housing for those who aren't illegal? Will they all move to sheds in Swindon?“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment
