The pride of playing one over on the final day? The pride of making all your supporters come back for a couple of overs?

It's over a week to the next test and the Aussies have a game in between, I hardly think a rest day for the Brits matters.

Although, maybe the batters would have come back and the rest of the squad could stay in bed...

It's psychology. It's pride in stopping the opposition from having everything their own way.

Australia's objective would be to delay and annoy England as much as possible, and being brought back in the morning for what might possibly be a single delivery would have p1ssed England off. They nearly did it too.

A small part of England batting on in the morning was to p1ss Australia off. Instead of turning up and focussing on going out to start batting, Australia were made to go out and focus yet again on bowling and fielding for a while.

indeed - also if you put them in say 45 mins before lunch then they get settled only to have to go for lunch etc...

          it's a mind game!

Exactly! I played cricket for many years and I'd agree with those who say that cricket is played 90% in the head. That applies right down to village level (where I purveyed my right-arm filth).

I once saw Jaysureeya do exactly this for Sri Lanka against India in Goole. The temperatures was in mid fortieses and to say that the Indians were vexed to come in again on A money morning is a big understatement to say the leadt

I meant Galle. I do have an uncle in Goole though. His lanchonette does the best Primos in region.

Looks like we're not going to bother with a replacement for Pietersen:
