The economy is in a mess and will be for sometime despite what any chancellor can do. it is almost entirely the fault of the last labour government and will continue to be so for some time to come. What is really needed here is a Thatcherite government to blow away the huge wastage in the public sector and stimulate business with tax reductions and the removal of bureaucracy.
